Job responsibilities
Long Haul Drivers are individuals who take routes in excess of miles that would require a layover in compliance with the DOT requirements. Long haul drivers will be paid route pay with additional pay for additional stops and detentions over the normal route built into the route pay. Long haul drivers are required by law to complete a Department of Transportation Log. Local Drivers are individuals who make deliveries to points that can be completed in the fourteen (14) hour rule. Local drivers are paid by the route. Logs are required unless radius is less than a 100 miles from Irwindale.

What you will Do:
- Drivers must report to work with clean uniforms and properly groomed.
- Notify dispatcher or loaders of arrival. Driver will report to work on time to dispatch at designated time.
- Determine assigned vehicles.
- . Check if vehicle is loaded and secure.
- Check to make sure that all paperwork is ready. Paperwork includes:
- BOL for each customer.
- Manifest, listing each stop.
- Leasing company trip envelop.
- Driver’s Inspection Report Book.
- Log Book
- Driver will perform a pre-trip inspection.
- We have on site fueling and unfortunately a tractor trailer may be missed so check fuel levels prior to departing the yard and then stop a Hapco at the corner of Cedar Ln and Rt 130. We have an account.
- Cell phones will be turned on at all times while on the route. Cell phones are for job related use only.
- Driver must be familiar with the designated delivery times for all customers loaded on his vehicle.
- Driver will make every safe, reasonable effort to meet those times.
- If the driver is informed he/she will be detained longer than an hour or if you have not been backed into a door within that time call dispatch.
- Driver will follow the direction of the customer’s representative regarding door assignment, unloading procedure, and product separation.
- After loading, the driver will check to see that all products are accounted for and accepted by the customer. If there are any exceptions to the invoice (short, damaged, wrong item, customer refused), the driver must report to dispatch. A complete exception report will be filled out.
- Once the driver and customer agree on quantities, the customer will sign BOL, including name, delivery date, and quantity received. The driver will give the customer the second and third copies of the invoice. The original copy will be returned to the office.
- After completing the delivery, the driver must ask that pallets are given in exchange for those left with the customer. Pallets are a valuable company asset that must be protected. An equal number of pallets will be returned to Ready Pac as were delivered to customers.
- Before leaving the customer’s yard you are to call into dispatch to inform them of your status.
- For our records you need to accurately record on your trip log your arrival and departure times at each stop.
- Upon return to Ready Pac, each driver will complete a Post Trip Inspection Report. This report is a three part form that identifies any defect or damage on the vehicle. The driver completes this report, which includes: vehicle number, mileage, date, drivers signature, and lists any defects. Defects are noted on the report by a check mark (X) in the box next to the defective item. If there are no defects, then the No Defects box will be checked.
- The three parts of the Driver’s Inspection Report are to be distributed as follows:
- White - Turn in with paperwork at end of day.
- Yellow - Stays in the cab of vehicles to be viewed and signed by the next driver. Pink - Stays in a report book as permanent record of inspection.
All drivers are required to check oil in both the tractor and the reefer. Upon return to Ready Pac, following delivery, the driver will report in to the supervisor/dispatcher on duty. She/He will also return the following items:
- Signed copy of BOL.
- Exception report.
- Driver’s manifest (trip report).
- Logs.
- Driver’s Inspection Report (white copy).
- Leasing Co. Trip Report.
- Turn in the tractor key to dispatch.
- All of the above items are to be turned in upon return and before the driver departs the facility in off duty status.
- If paperwork does not match what was delivered $50.00 may be deducted from your pay.
- A professional driver for Ready Pac will operate his/hers vehicle in a fuel efficient manner.
- Driver will observe proper shift patterns and will shut off the engine when making deliveries.
- If you are too sick to meet your scheduled dispatch time, you must notify the dispatch office at least four (4) hours prior to your scheduled start time.
- No unauthorized passengers are to be in your vehicle unless authorized, in writing, by your supervisor.
- Drivers are responsible to keep the interior of the tractor clean, free of any type debris, windows and mirrors clean.

Physical Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be required to perform repetitive movements (i.e., sample collection – 2 grams per minute on each sample taken). The associate regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is regularly exposed to extreme cold. The associate frequently works in high, precarious places. The associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
