To be a good fit for the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager opportunity, you will have:
  • A bachelor's degree in safety, science, environmental, engineering, or any other industry related field.
  • 7+ years of EH&S management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience leading or actively participating in risk management plan / process safety management (RMP/PSM) compliance teams.
  • The ability to develop, mentor, and coach direct and indirect teams.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Cal OSHA Safety and Regulation standards.

  • A solid understanding of permitting processes.
  • A demonstrated ability to:
    • Develop comprehensive and effective EH&S compliance and best practice programs.
    • Acquire and utilize technical skills to penetrate issues and solve them to root cause.
  • Knowledge of GMP manufacturing requirements
Preferred but not required:
  • A master's degree in safety, science, environmental, engineering, or any other industry related field.

As an essential business, we are taking appropriate precautions to protect the health and safety of all employees. You will work in the facility Monday through Friday during typical business hours. You also will need to be flexible as necessary, including working in the evenings and on weekends from time to time. The facility is refrigerated, temperatures can be as low as 34 degrees F, and you should expect to get wet on the production floor.

You will report to the Plant Director and have a dotted line relationship with the Vice President, EH&S. Reporting to you will be an EH&S Supervisor and Coordinator. You can expect to spend 50% on the floor, engaging with associates and cross-functional departments for various EHS related reasons, and 50% in the office.

Your key responsibilities will include:
  • Developing processes, systems and procedures to prevent injuries to our associates, leading incident/injury management efforts, obtaining/maintaining regulatory compliance and championing sustainability efforts at the Irwindale facility.
  • Working directly with plant operations and functional leadership to successfully integrate EH&S process and procedure that promote a safe workplace through communication, training, ownership and accountability.

More specifically, you will:
  • Provide EH&S leadership to the facility and enable efficient knowledge transfer of key skills to managers, supervisors and associates.
  • In conjunction with plant leadership, develop proactive annual safety plans that provide solutions necessary to build and sustain a world-class safety culture.
  • Continually seek opportunities to improve the knowledge and skill of the facility management and associates to positively impact the safe operations of the business.
  • Analyze/interpret plant safety metrics to proactively target and eliminate injury to associates through the development and execution of regional strategic reduction plans.
  • Execute a comprehensive facility inspection process to ensure continuous improvement while maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Provide oversight and direction regarding the facility Process Safety Management program by working with plant support functions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements associated with the operation of the facility's ammonia refrigeration system.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with all federal EPA, state and local environmental regulations including the completion/oversight of all permits required, air, water, wastewater, stormwater, landspreading, Form R, Tier II, Pollution Prevention Plan, solid/hazardous waste and RMP reports.
  • Implement comprehensive and effective safety and health programs to ensure that facility operations are fully compliant with Local, State, and Federal laws.
  • Maintain or oversee all facility required environmental permitting, plan development, reporting and inspection activities including but not limited to AQMD, RCRA, PSM, RMP, Storm water and SPCC requirements.
  • In conjunction with the senior leadership, develop and implement an Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) in accordance with company and OSHA requirements.
  • Oversee security, including managing our relationship with a contracted provider.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for facility emergency action and emergency response plans.
  • Identify and lead sustainable practice opportunities and initiatives which support corporate sustainability objectives and targets.
  • Handle additional responsibilities or duties assigned by the senior leadership team.
