To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Senior Quality Manager opportunity, you will have:
  • A bachelor's degree in Food Science, Biology or another relevant field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Plant Quality management in food processing environments; experience with fresh-cut produce is strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience, at a senior management level, with food quality assurance and safety (USDA/FSIS, FDA). Quick question for you - click here
  • Advanced knowledge of food best practices, including GMP, SOP and HACCP/FSMA.
  • A demonstrated ability to train QA operators and technicians.
  • Experience with food safety compliance, audits and reports, including GFSI, BRC, SQF, ISO 2200 A proven track record of successful regulatory compliance, audits and reports (USDA, FDA, Allergen Control, Food Defense, Food Quality and customer).
  • Experience with inspection and testing to ensure QA of materials, facilities and products (FDA, USDA and customer).
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies and on-site USDA inspectors.
  • A proven ability to create benchmarking tools, KPIs, SOPs and improvement initiatives.
  • Familiarity with lab instrumentation and basic chemistry, micro, and sciences.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Preferred but not required:
  • FSMA training and/or PCQI certification.
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish.
  • Knowledge of Lean and continuous improvement concepts.
  • Quality and/or safety certifications such as SQF and/or SQF Practitioner.
  • Experience maintaining and updating web-based profiles (such as iCiX, FDA Bioterrorism, customer-based profile sites).
  • Experience deploying a plant quality management system (QMS).
As an essential business, we are taking appropriate precautions to protect the health and safety of all employees. For the duration of the COVID pandemic, you may be able to work from home part of the time, but you also will need to spend time in the facility on the plant floor. Once the pandemic is over, we can discuss flexible work arrangements. You also will need to be flexible as necessary, including working in the evenings and on weekends from time to time. Reporting to the Plant Director and indirectly to Vice President, Quality & Food Safety, you will oversee a team of 6 to 7 quality, hygiene and clerical resources and an overall team of about 80. You will be responsible for managing all activities in the Quality Assurance Department to comply with company standards and a USDA FSIS-based food safety program. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Maintaining high quality standards of products through the implementation and verification of quality systems and management of resources in the quality assurance department.
  • Providing technical support and training to different operation groups in the company.
  • Spending at least 25% of your time in production areas to monitor performance, coach team members and identify opportunities to improve.
