To be a good fit for the Lead Technician opportunity, you will have:
  • 3 to 5 years of broad technical experience, including 1 to 2 years in manufacturing operation and/or manufacturing/process engineering.
  • Experience with vertical packaging equipment is strongly preferred, and experience in food processing would be ideal.
  • Strong electrical skills, including troubleshooting PLC control panels. Quick question for you - click here
  • 1+ years of people management experience.
  • Some exposure to Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma and TPM.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, ideally JDE, and the ability to write up and create work orders.
  • The ability to fully understand various types of equipment and train others to safely operate it.
  • The ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate up and down the organization.
  • A proven track record of results with a bias for action.
  • A passion for learning and a craving to work in a fun culture.
  • A technical degree is preferred.
We're hiring for the night shift, which runs from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM. We'll also look to you to be flexible about working other shifts and overtime to complete work as needed.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor, you will provide leadership to two Maintenance Associates. You'll be responsible for the maintenance of the packaging machines and associated equipment. This will include assisting and training the Packaging Machine Operators (PMOs), as well as repairing all PLCs and applicable equipment. Quick question for you - click here

More specifically, you will:
  • Provide preventative maintenance (PM) to all Hayssen/Bowl equipment, label applicator equipment (UBI or other equipment) as per the Master Preventative Maintenance Schedule.
  • Troubleshoot and make repairs on Hayssen/Bowl and label applicator equipment in a timely manner.
  • Provides PM and Repairs to Safeline metal detectors.
  • Maintain the Hayssen/Bowl room equipment shop area in a manner in conformance with plant standards.
  • Utilize the CMMS effectively.
  • Help train and assist Packaging Machine Operators (PMO).
  • Troubleshoot and program programmable logic controls for plant (PLCs) Maintain a safe work environment by insuring compliance with all safety rules and regulations.
  • Communicate with Maintenance Supervisors and the Production Manager on issues that may affect the production floor.
  • Assume responsibility for down time due to repairs, calculating Hayssen efficiency, and assisting with PMO issues.
  • Maintain parts inventory and a minimum inventory of the most replaced parts.
  • Document all PMs in their respective manuals.
  • Enforce Good Manufacturing Practices with all associates and comply with FDA and USDA programs.
  • Audit the condition of equipment and write work orders to correct any deviation detected.
  • Submit work orders to Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Identify safety hazards with the PMO/Technician area and report any findings to the Production Manager or the Operations Manager.
  • Report all accidents in the PMO Technician area to the Production Manager and assist in completing the necessary accident reports.
  • Assist other mechanics as needed.
  • Report, when performing work in other area/duties, to the appropriate manager/supervisor and follow instructions and perform responsibilities in that area.
  • Thrive in team environment.
  • Complete all other duties assigned.

Your technical expertise will be essential, but just as important will be interpersonal and leadership skills. You will provide guidance to the two Associates and also coach Machine Operators. They should see you are a resource who can help them achieve goals, embrace new equipment and processes, and grow professionally. A collaborative approach will work best, but there also may be times when you need to be assertive.

Some people are surprised at the fast pace of our operations -- working with fresh produce requires agility and a strong sense of urgency. No two days will be the same, and there is always a lot going on. You should have strong organizational and prioritization skills.

In addition, in order to be an outstanding Lead Technician, you will:
