If you combine a background in training with strong communication skills and the ability to train line personnel in a fast-paced, refrigerated production environment, the role of Frontline Trainer for our Bistro line of products offers some compelling opportunities. Consider:
  • We are undergoing an exciting change in our approach to training and this role has the opportunity to make a strong impact, both initially and over the long run. The team now reports into HR, and while you will concentrate on the Irwindale team, there's an opportunity to influence best practices across all four U.S. plants.
  • You can build a progressive career and have great exposure at the corporate and plant levels. In addition to training, you will write training documentation (internally called OPLs - One Point Lessons), work on special projects, and we anticipate building nationwide training metrics.
  • You will directly influence performance management and productivity at one of the largest produce facilities in the Los Angeles area at 400,000 square feet, including 24 production lines, shipping & receiving, a microbiology lab and more. We are a dual FDA, USDA facility with onsite corporate offices. 
  • Initially, you will train hourly production line personnel, but you could also begin training on skilled line positions, such as label operator.
  • You can showcase your potential to take on additional responsibilities and advance your career. From this role, you could step up to a lead trainer position, follow a path in Operations or HR, or even support our nationwide initiative and drive training at any or all of our four U.S. facilities.

This role is a key position within our manufacturing plants and supports our production team leads as they drive production to the highest safety, quality and efficiency standards.

Reporting to the Human Resource Business Partner, you will help drive efficiencies and associate retention by developing, training and coaching associates on the line on standard operating procedures. You will be responsible for the training and integration of new associates, including temps, into the Bistro environment, which includes exposure to multiple refrigerated areas within production. You'll also manage performance by retraining associates on various processes as needed. Beyond your daily training responsibilities, you will be responsible for developing a monthly training topic for our Alchemy program, participate in engineering and other meetings focused on equipment or training relevant topics, and keep essential documentation, such as the training logs. 

New hire orientation and training take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You will do an orientation for all incoming associates/temps, including company information, safety training, GMPs, dress code, personal protective equipment (PPE), gowning process and more. You'll then deliver those who are assigned to salads to their area and provide hands-on training for those assigned to Bistro. On the line, you'll instruct them what to do in their area responsibility (e.g. chicken, bacon, cheese, etc.), evaluate their performance, and make adjustments/improvements as needed.  Quick question for you - click here

Specifically, you will be responsible for:
  • Conducting a short onboarding session using a PowerPoint presentation on associates' first day, including GMPs, Safety, and the environment. Groups should include no more than 10 new associates.
  • Training assigned associates while utilizing effective training techniques, such as new associates' orientation, on-the-job training, health and safety practices, etc.
  • Training that is conducted in a classroom setting prior to the associate going to the production line and demonstrating tasks.
  • Reviewing the job description with the new associates
  • Assigning them to a line/area and mirroring the new associate. Ensuring they are assigned to the same line on day #2.
  • Taking the new associate on a short tour of the facility including restrooms, cafeteria, and locker room.
  • Partnering and communicating with the temporary agencies to meet new associates and coordinate training/onboarding.
  • Communicating new associate progress to their supervisor daily.
  • Overseeing the new associate performance for at least one week; longer if needed. Providing constant coaching and feedback to the associate.
  • Following and maintaining HACCP and Sanitation guidelines and processes.
  • Performing/assisting with annual training needs, making recommendations based on opportunities.
  • Training new associates against established one point lessons (OPLs).
  • Ensuring that adequate lesson plans/materials are available.
  • Completing special projects as assigned, such as writing or confirming one point lessons (OPLs).
  • Maintaining and tracking records (i.e. training sign-in sheets and development status of trainees).
  • Working safely around moving equipment and conveyors in a wet environment.
  • Performing appropriate instructional procedures or methods.
  • Ensuring new, transferred/returning associates receive appropriate department and/or equipment-specific training.
  • Assisting with the improvement of the facility's general orientation/induction program.
  • Understanding how to maintain a safe work environment and ensuring new associates are wearing/using PPE correctly.
  • Assisting with the facilitation of Alchemy training topics.
  • Complying with SQF Regulatory Programs.
  • Performing assessment of all new temps and associates.
