To be a good fit for this Packaging Machine Operator opportunity, you should have:

• A GED or High School diploma

Preferred but not required:

• Basic knowledge of scale system (Ishida & Yamato) and bagger equipment (Hayssen) would be helpful
• Food and beverage industry experience

We have openings on both the first shift (6:30 am to 4:30 pm plus overtime when needed) and second shift (4:00 or 5:00 pm to midnight or 1:30 am, depending on shift needs).

 

You will be one of nine Packaging Machine Operator (PMO 1) team members (six on first shift, three on second) who run the salad bagging lines in the refrigerated production environment at our Jackson plant. Each week, we’ll determine whether overtime will be needed to meet production goals and adjust schedules accordingly. The right fit for this role is flexible enough to work overtime on any day as needed, which also means you will often be able to count on overtime pay.

On a day-to-day basis, you’ll operate the bagger and label printer equipment, meeting all productivity goals and product specifications. This will include changing bag films, reading the schedule to understand targets, ensuring bags meet target weights, completing basic troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment, and completing regular quality checks. Most of your time will be spent ensuring the machines are running properly so we can meet our daily / weekly targets.

Some of your specific tasks will be to:

• Ensure compliance with and maintain all GMP/PPE/Safety, SQF, HACCP & Sanitation guidelines and processes.
• Set up the bagger (Hayssen) per bag specifications and certify the bag meets product and order specifications.
• Operate multiple baggers at one time.
• Perform preventative maintenance of the equipment (lubricate, corrective maintenance, programming bagger and scales) when necessary.
• Conduct quality inspections, visual checks of defect, foreign objects (FOs), size, color, quality, etc.
• Manage and reduce waste (product giveaway) by use of scale system, and establish Bagged Salad Efficiency (Production rates and BPM).
• Validate the quality of the bag via air testing, seals, code date, weight, nitrogen, volume, etc.
• Lift/carry forming tubes and film roll and adjust to bagger equipment (50 lbs).
